Dark Shade of Magic” is the first novel in the “Shades of Magic” series, which also includes two already published and translated novels (“Shadows are gathering” and “The Creation of Light”), as well as several novels and novellas announced by the author.
Victoria Schwab is a young American writer who has achieved international fame through her Young Adult fantasy novels. “Shades of Magic” is her most famous series. The story is based on an original version of the concept of parallel dimensions (each corresponding to a different color) and a mage with a special gift to travel between worlds.
About the writer
Victoria Schwab does not like to share the details of her personal life. The general public only knows a brief summary: she was born in 1987, her mother is English, and her father is “a guy from Beverly Hills”. She lives and works in Nashville, Tennessee, loves traveling, cozy cafes where you can work on a book, baked goods, and folklore, especially stories about witches.
Victoria dedicated her first novel to her favorite subject, magic and witches in a medieval setting with a touch of fantasy. In 2011, just after its release, The Near Witch didn’t gather much attention, but when the writer became famous, fans appreciated her first book as well.
Victoria Schwab’s next major work was a trilogy about an archive where the souls of everyone who has ever lived in our world are stored after death. It is already a completely different universe. The writer likes to work on cycles, each one building in a different world. She now has four fantasy worlds, and each has a sequel waiting for readers in the coming years.

Let’s imagine that parallel worlds are real, but little is known about them, as not everyone can traverse the boundaries of the dimensions. There are 4 dimensions for London, each assigned a shade:
Grey – London, which is similar to our reality, there is no magic in it;
red – magic not only exists, but is considered an honorable craft, and magicians are highly respected in society;
white – there is no single ruling dynasty in this London, and the throne (and the right to possess magical knowledge) goes to whoever can win it;
Black – no one has heard of it for many years, there are only legends, and even those are not supposed to remember, so as not to cause trouble.

So far the series includes 2 novels, City of Ghosts and Tunnel of Bones. A third book, The Bridge of Souls, is scheduled for release in English in 2021.
