The second month of fall is over. It’s time to find out what new books of October 2020 publishers have pleased us with. We have made a selection with the most interesting books of the month.
Yu Nesbé’s The Kingdom.
Yu Nesbe’s world fame was brought by the series of detectives about Harry Hole. From time to time the writer creates works outside of this series, although they are not as popular as books about the detective. “The Kingdom” is a new attempt to get away from a well-known character.
Some critics define the genre of the book as Scandinavian noir, a psychological-family drama. The novel is set in the Norwegian countryside. Roy Opgard lives on the family farm, not far from the small village of Us. He runs a gas station, he likes his job. Roy is not sociable, he lives a withdrawn life. But his younger brother Karl comes back to his father’s house. His wife comes with him. Karl has ambitious plans to build a luxury hotel on the farmland. He invites the residents of Usa to participate financially in this project, which is in their best interest as well. Tourists will revive the dying town. There are more and more problems – debts, the brothers’ relationship, a love triangle, old family secrets.
Amy Harmon’s “What the Wind Knows.”
Those who love historical novels and works about a hitchhiker should check out this new book from October 2020. This is a story that blurs the boundaries of time and space.

Joe Spain, “Who Killed Olivia Collins?”
The atmosphere is a bit reminiscent of the TV series Desperate Housewives. Empty Valley is a village for well-to-do people. It is small, but very beautiful. Successful people live here, but as always in such stories, each family has its secrets and problems. The neighbors prefer to keep private – the holidays together do not celebrate, do not get close. And only Olivia Collins tried to change that. She visited, she invited people over. But the better they got to know her, the more they distanced themselves. And who likes it when they start meddling in your affairs? When they start arguing about your parenting methods? When they find out your secret and start blackmailing you? Olivia is found murdered in her own home. So who killed her?

Л. Edlington’s “The Scarlet Ribbon.”
Don’t miss this work among the new books of October 2020. The setting is the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. This is where fate brought the four heroines together. Rosa and Ella are prisoners. They work in a sewing workshop, sewing outfits for those who send people to their deaths. Marta is also a prisoner, but she has a special position; she runs the workshop. Carla is the warden. There are no violent scenes in this book, no bullying of prisoners. There are people here who want to survive, there is friendship, and there is faith in the best. The novel is designed for a teen audience, but will be of interest not only to young readers.
